Video Documentary of Local Breast Cancer Survivor Receives National Recognition

LUFKIN, TEXAS (August 3, 2015)… A local breast cancer survivor and her journey to recovery is the subject of a nationally recognized video production.  The video, “The Sun is Rising,” was produced and created locally for last year’s Power of Pink Luncheon sponsored by CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial.  That video is now recognized by the national publication, Marketing Healthcare Today Magazine, as the Aster Award gold winner for 2015.

The 2015 Aster Awards received nearly 3,000 entries from across the United States as well as several foreign countries. All entries were judged by industry experts for creativity, message effectiveness, production quality and overall appeal.  “The creativity of this year’s participating healthcare marketing professionals exceeded our expectations. The 2015 Aster Awards program contained some of the best and most creative advertising in the world,” said Melinda Lucas, Aster Awards Program Coordinator.

The local production, “The Sun is Rising,” features breast cancer survivor Kathleen Riley of Livingston and her year-long journey of healing.  City of Lufkin Videographer, Randy Cadwell, and the CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Marketing team produced the documentary that captured some of the most intimate moments of Ms. Riley and her family as she underwent treatment for the disease.  “We were there when Ms. Riley underwent her initial diagnostic testing, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.  She even allowed our cameras into her home to capture some of her most vulnerable moments,” said Yana Ogletree, System Director of Marketing Communications for CHI St. Luke’s Health.

The goal of the documentary is to inspire and motivate women who are struggling with cancer, while sharing the importance of the caregiver role. In this video, Ms. Riley’s mom shares the experience with her daughter.  As the primary caregiver, Mary Riley can be seen in the video supporting her daughter through diagnostic testing and treatments to comforting her through sickness and physical transformations such as losing her hair.

The Aster Awards, one of the largest national competitions of its kind, is hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today Magazine and Creative Images, Inc. This elite program recognized outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in their advertising/marketing efforts for the calendar year 2014.

Earlier this year the “Sun is Rising” video also was recognized as the winner of the National Service Industry Advertising (SIA) Award.  The prestigious SIA award is the only award to specifically recognize the achievements of those in the service industry.
